The Poise lamp, a 2018 collaboration between YMER&MALTA and Sebastian Bergne for the Musee Noguchi's Akari Unfolded collection, harmoniously blends a robust yet delicate material: it's a modern origami. The polished stainless steel structure accentuates the paper volume's graphic form. Like the Akari series from the '50s, assembling the paper volume is part of the lamp's experience, offering a deeper connection as if you're participating in its creation. Poise comes as a DIY kit. Inspired by Isamu Noguchi's sculpture, Valerie Maltaverne developed Poise with Sebastian Bergne, featuring meticulously calculated lead weights for perfect balance, crafted by a French artisan specializing in fishing gear. Extensive research and prototyping on various papers resulted in a flawless folding process and ideal light diffusion. This piece was exhibited at the Noguchi Museum in New York.
